Being young is how we differentiate ourselves — Open letter from our Chairman

Dear Xiaomiers,

The Fortune magazine has just released the annual Fortune Global 500 list for 2019, with Xiaomi making the list for the first time ever!

We are ranked No. 468 on the list, and one of the seven companies in the Internet Services and Retailing category. As the youngest among this year’s 500, except those established through mergers, we have so far achieved a huge success since our founding nine years ago.

We have gone through some of the greatest business miracles, and being a Fortune Global 500 company is the best conclusion to these adventures along the journey. At a time when the mobile internet industry is on the rise, we have presented a unique and powerful business model, as well as an industry leading mindset for developing products, in an effort to continuously offer the best user experience beyond expectations. We have also stayed true to our commitment to relentlessly building amazing and highly innovative products at honest pricing points – a cornerstone of all our successes.

For Xiaomi, good news comes in pairs recently – our presence on the Global 500 list and the grand opening of our new headquarters campus. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our friends who believe in us, stand by us, help us, and push us to be better.

Firstly, I would like to thank the hundreds of millions of users and Mi Fans across the world for their unwavering trust and nonstop pep talks; secondly, I owe a big thank you to our business partners for their long-standing support, without which, Xiaomi would never have the chance to make the Global 500 list all the way from a small workshop of 13 employees; then, our investors, who have given us their understanding, seen us grow with patience, and encouraged us. Furthermore, our competitors in the same sector, thank you all for motivating us and teaching us to look ahead, you truly are the best peers.

Last but not the least, I would like to express my utmost appreciation to everyone who works at Xiaomi, and to your family members who have been super supportive. Making the list takes the efforts of all. Therefore, as a token of appreciation, we will be presenting a special gift to our 20,538 coworkers and members of key external teams.

Each of you will recieve 1,000 shares of Xiaomi stocks. Of which, 500 shares serve to celebrate our Global 500 achievement, while the remaining 500 are gifted to the family and loved ones of each coworker and partner for their support along the way.

With a heart teemed with gratitude, we cannot be complacent and must march on. While the Global 500 ranking is measured by sales revenue, and it is true that we are now a sizeable company, however, there is still a lot to be done to make us truly great. In the span of nine years, we have proven that Xiaomi’s business model functions well, earning us a spot in the world’s top business circle. But Xiaomi was not founded to receive the accolades, we will have to work hard in pursuit of excellence.

As the youngest company on the Global 500 list, we have demonstrated our strength and determination, and have ranked among the top tier in the global business world. Being young is how we differentiate ourselves. With this same spirit, I encourage all employees to constantly embrace the endless possibilities that lie ahead of us. Our vision to be a great company is built on our past successes, testifying to our unfailing commitment through strategic positioning and our ability to continuously making technological breakthroughs and advancements.

Dear Xiaomiers, difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. Let’s embrace our dreams, remember our mission, and overcome difficulties to pursue our commitment to continuously innovating for everyone in the world and building Xiaomi into an exceptional company!

Xiaomi makes Fortune Global 500 list for the first time

Ranks 468th on the Global 500 list for 2019
And 7th in the Internet Services and Retailing category
The youngest company among this year’s Global 500

Beijing, CHINA, July 22, 2019 – Xiaomi Corporation (“Xiaomi” or the “Group”; Stock Code: 1810: Hong Kong) announced today that the company has for the first time made the Fortune Global 500 list, nine years after its iteration.

The Beijing-based global technology leader is the youngest company on the Fortune Global 500 list for 2019, ranking 468th, with a revenue of US$26,443.50 million and a net profit of US$2,049.10 million in the previous fiscal year. The company also ranks 7th in the Internet Services and Retailing category.

“It took Xiaomi only nine years to make the Fortune Global 500 list, a milestone that we owe a big thank you to all our Mi Fans and users for their unwavering support. We are also the youngest company on this year’s list, a proud record that we will keep in mind and bring to another level in the global expansion journey,” said Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi

Over the past year, we have made significant improvements and adjustments in our core strategies, management structures, technology research and development systems, product lineups, brand developments, and much more. These moves have empowered Xiaomi to continuously shine, even in the face of fierce competition from domestic and international peers. This honor does not mark the end of our pursuit, but simply a new beginning. We remain committed to making amazing and highly innovative products at honest prices, as our philosophy states, in an effort to let our Mi Fans, users and investors enjoy a better life,” Lei Jun added.

As an internet company with smartphones and smart hardware connected by an Internet of Things (IoT) platform at its core founded in April 2010, Xiaomi was also named to Fortune’s China 500 list for the first time in June, ranking 53rd.

The company reached RMB10,000 million (approx. US$1,453.72 million) threshold in sales revenue in 2012, and RMB100,000 million (approx. US$14,537.21 million) in 2017.

Xiaomi continues to demonstrate its healthy consumer brand equity and strong growth potential, thanks to the company’s unique and powerful “triathlon” business model, and the results of its dual-core strategy of “Smartphone + AIoT”.

According to international market research organization IDC, as of March 2019, Xiaomi had become the world’s 4th smartphone brand in terms of shipment sales volume, registering a year-on-year growth of 32.2 percent. The company has also incubated and invested in over 200 ecosystem companies, many of which are specialized in developing smart hardware, and thus built the world’s largest consumer IoT platform with approximately 171 million connected IoT devices, excluding smartphones and laptops, by late March 2019.

Xiaomi’s footprints are now present in over 80 markets globally. According to international market research organization Canalys, as of March 2019, Xiaomi was ranked among the top five in more than 40 markets in terms of shipment, and also remained India’s biggest smartphone brand for seven consecutive quarters, with a market share of 31.4 percent. Additionally, the company has maintained a high growth rate in Western Europe, less than two years after its official entry, ranking 4th in terms of smartphone shipments, while making great strides in new markets in Africa and Latin America.

Xiaomi is also dedicated to building and expanding its highly efficient new retail network, which incorporates both online and offline channels, in overseas markets. As of March 31, 2019, there were 480 authorized Mi Home stores overseas, representing a 93.5 percent year-on-year growth, of which over 110 were in Europe and 79 in India.

Xiaomi is investing RMB10 billion in the development of “All in AIoT” in the next five years as part of its “Smartphone+AIoT” dual-core strategy, allowing the prospect to capitalize on  artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT development opportunities in the future, and laying a solid foundation for the growth over the next five to 10 years. Moreover, the company is planning to replicate its success by enhancing and adjusting its business strategies from China to overseas ones.

The Fortune Global 500, also known as Global 500, is an annual ranking of the top 500 corporations worldwide compiled and published by Fortune magazine for 67 consecutive years, as measured by revenue and net profit from the previous fiscal year.

Xiaomi Amplifies Commitment to Open-Source Software

Beijing, China, Jul 20, 2019 – Global technology leader Xiaomi, an active advocate and contributor to the open-source community, hosted HBaseCon Asia 2019 in Beijing on Saturday and called for industry leaders to further engage with the open-source initiatives and collaborate toward more democratic and transparent open-source communities.

HBaseCon is the premier conference for the community of Apache HBase, an open-source, distributed, non-relational database for the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, which develops open-source software for reliable, scalable, distributed computing. Established in 2017, the annual HBaseCon Asia event gathers committers, contributors, developers, operators, learners, and users, with representation from the likes of Alibaba, Tencent, and Huawei.

“Open-source initiatives have no borders. Nowadays it is almost impossible for a company to remain technologically advanced and rapidly upgrade its products without adopting open-source technologies,” said Dr. Baoqiu Cui, Vice President of Xiaomi Corporation and Chairman of Technical Committee. “Embracing open-source software is deeply rooted in Xiaomi’s engineering culture, and we will keep working with partners and developers worldwide to further build the open-source ecosystem.”

Xiaomi is currently the fourth-largest smartphone brand and the world’s largest consumer IoT platform; however, the company didn’t start off with hardware as its initial focus. Instead Xiaomi’s first product was the Android-based operating system MIUI, launched in 2010, which benefited greatly from the online community’s contributions.

Among all 82 HBase committers from mainland China, 17 are from mainland China, including 9 from Xiaomi. Duo Zhang, leader of the storage team at Xiaomi and the very first Apache HBase PMC member from mainland China, was the third-largest contributor in 2018 among all 7,000 committers of the Apache Software Foundation. Additionally, Xiaomi contributed 306 patches to HBase last year, accounting for 23% of the total 1,316 patches submitted by HBase contributors all over the world .

Xiaomi has taken other steps to champion open-source software. In 2018, Xiaomi officially open-sourced MACE (Mobile AI Compute Engine), a deep-learning inference framework. Xiaomi also invested RMB 1.65 billion in R&D in the first quarter of 2019, an increase of 50 percent from the prior year. The total investment in R&D last year was RMB 5.8 billion.

Xiaomi announces Mi CC9 smartphone series

The Mi CC9 series introduces a trendsetting 32MP front + 48MP rear camera setup to empower global creators
Mi CC9 Meitu Edition offers a revolutionary selfie portrait experience
Devices are available from RMB 1299

Beijing, CHINA, July 2 2019 –– Global technology leader Xiaomi has announced three new smartphones – Mi CC9, Mi CC9e and Mi CC9 Meitu Edition – under its new Mi CC series. Designed to deliver the exceptional photography experience younger generations crave, Mi CC9 series’s flagship camera configuration features a 32MP front camera and 48MP rear camera. Devices are equipped with the latest generation in-screen fingerprint sensor and a large 4030mAh battery, and can be purchased from RMB 1299.

Flagship design with contemporary features

Mi CC9 leverages the exceptional manufacturing processes used to develop Mi 9, and maintains the same comfortable hand-feel with a curved glass back. The new series also makes use of Mi 9’s 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and screen-to-body ratio of up to 91 percent.

Mi CC9 comes in three trendy colors, White Lover, Blue Planet and Dark Prince –– all of which produce a 3D effect. White Lover resembles light glistening on the surface of snow, refracting holographic colors in various angles. Blue Planet has a unique “CC” pattern, which is enabled by an even more complex nano-technology manufacturing process, causing the phone’s surface to resemble moonlight shimmering on the ocean.

The new series adopts a vertical logo and has a multi-color LED light on its back cover. In addition to acting as a notification LED, the hue light also supports unique light effects for games and can also pulse along to your favorite music.

The devices are equipped with the latest in-screen fingerprint sensor technologies — with faster unlock speed and a higher success recognition rate — as well as low-blue-light eye protection certification by Germany’s VDE Testing and Certification Institute.  Mi CC9 also includes hardware DC tuning which ensures color retention while eliminating flickering under low light environment.

Industry-leading 32MP selfies, introducing brand new Mimoji feature

Mi CC9’s front camera uses a Samsung 32MP flagship sensor and merges four pixels to form large 1.6μm pixels and ultimately capture more details in low-light conditions. Meanwhile, AI beautify mode optimizations were applied to retain users’ facial features and avoid over-editing.

The device’s front camera supports palm shutter, as well as panorama selfies by merging three selfie photos in one to fit even more people in a group photo. Xiaomi also introduced a brand new Mimoji feature, that lets you use the front camera to produce cute cartoon photos and animations up to 15s.

Sony 48MP ultra-wide triple camera, all-new AI Skyscaping

At the back, Mi CC9 sports a triple camera setup with 48MP flagship main lens and a large 1/2” sensor for super clear 48MP ultra-high resolution day shots and uses 1.6μm 4-in-1 Super Pixel to capture more light for bright night shots.

Mi CC9 intelligently detects when architectural or group shots are taken and recommends if users should switch to ultra wide-angle mode for a more optimal image. With built-in AI distortion correction enabled, the device also corrects image distortion automatically.

For an even more optimal photography experience, users can leverage the all-new AI Skyscaping feature, which accurately detects the sky within the photo and can transform an overcast day to a bright sunny day or even a breathtaking sunset. This innovation was made possible by Mi AI Lab which used deep learning to analyze over 100,000 images of skies.

Dual turbo technologies, 4030mAh high-capacity battery

Powered by Snapdragon 710 mobile platform, Mi CC9 offers fast speed, excellent performance, and long battery life. Mi Turbo optimizes system performance, enabling the system to run smoothly even after prolonged usage and increases app launch time by 20%. Gaming enthusiasts will also be eager to deploy Game Turbo 2.0 which offers color enhancement by increasing contrast when playing in dark environments.

Despite its slim form factor, Mi CC9 packs a high capacity 4030mAh battery combined with power-saving features to accommodate up to two days of regular usage. The device is even equipped with multi-functional NFC, Hi-Res audio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an IR blaster.

Mi CC9e: A compact Mi CC 9 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 debut

Mi CC9e takes on a smaller form compared to the Mi 9 CC, with a 6.088-inch screen and a high-capacity 4030mAh battery. Given its compact size, the weight and thickness are reduced to 173.8g and 8.475mm respectively, making it ideal for single-hand operation.

While compact, Mi CC9e still packs flagship-level specifications, including the ultra-clear 32-megapixel selfie camera, 48-megapixel rear triple camera, an updated in-screen fingerprint sensor, cutting-edge front audio system, and a 3.5mm jack.

Mi CC9e also debuts Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 665 mobile platform. It boasts great power efficiency with the 11nm LPP process technology and Vulkan 1.1 API, and improves AI performance significantly.

These top of the line specs are a true testament to Xiaomi’s commitment to delivering outstanding products at honest pricing for everyone.

Mi CC9 Meitu Edition: Made for selfie lovers

Mi CC9 Meitu Edition takes on a one-of-a-kind gradient color, reminiscent of the famous beaches of the Bahamas. Made with selfie lovers in mind, the smartphone features a highly-customized UI theme and ringtone that vibes with its holographic back cover.

Meitu Edition comes with the same hardware configurations – a front 32-megapixel selfie camera and a 48-megapixel triple camera setup. The main difference is the Meitu camera optimization, which capitalizes on all Meitu camera features and video editing capabilities to achieve a resulting image that is natural yet boasts great detail.

The highlight of Mi CC9 Meitu Edition is its unique AI low-light portrait feature that allows users to take beautiful, high-quality portraits in almost zero ambient light. This feature uses Meitu’s unique AI beautify technology and Meitu’s single frame depth acquisition technology to accommodate a wide variety of scenes. Even under extreme low-light conditions where it is difficult to see, the device can still extract facial features and produce a brilliantly detailed selfie thanks to depth acquisition technology.

Mi CC9 Meitu Edition also comes with a superior AI Beautify feature that supports zero-level microdermabrasion for a more natural looking photo. It also solves common problems faced while taking photos, such as accidental eye blinks or shots taken when eyes are closed.

Mi CC9e 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB variants will be available for RMB RMB 1299, RMB 1399, and RMB 1599 respectively

Mi CC9 6GB+64GB variant retails at RMB 1799, and 6GB+128GB variant for RMB 1999.

Mi CC9 Meitu Edition 8GB+256GB retails at RMB 2599.
