MILAN, Italy, 24 May 2018 — Global technology leader Xiaomi made great strides in its global expansion journey today by announcing its arrival in Italy, a new Western European market. This came two days following its official entry into France and six months after arrival in Spain, its first Western European market.

Well-known for its range of amazing products at honest prices, Xiaomi is set to shake up the smartphone and Internet of Things (IoT) device market in Italy and create more ripples in Western Europe.

Founded in 2010, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun and other seven co-founders started the company based on the vision “innovation for everyone”. It has pioneered a unique business model, inspired by Internet thinking, that ensures the highest level of efficiency, so it can make its amazing products with cutting-edge technology and innovative services available at accessible and honest prices.

There are three pillars that Xiaomi’s business model is constructed on: hardware, Internet services and new retail. During an event held at Milan’s Superstudio Più today, Xiaomi announced that it is bringing to Italy all three parts of the “triathlon” business model, including Mi.com and the first Authorized Mi Store. Through this, the company is demonstrating its commitment to the Italian market, as well as showcasing its new attitude to change the game in the technology industry.

Mr. Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President, Xiaomi, said at the event: “Today we witness a new chapter in Xiaomi’s global expansion journey, underpinned by our global ambitions. We are thrilled to make great strides by announcing our arrival in Italy, a market of great importance for Xiaomi in Western Europe, two days following our official entry into France. We are dedicated to bringing in more amazing products and innovative services at honest prices to best satisfy the growing demand from our Mi Fans and consumers here. Xiaomi is a company committed to developing products that combine cutting-edge technological innovations, and we believe that our products and services will amaze consumers and win their trust, helping us ultimately change the game in the technology industry.”

Xiaomi announced Mi MIX 2S and Redmi Note 5 at the event, as well as an IoT product Mi Electric Scooter.

Xiaomi and Wind Tre have joined hands in bringing Mi MIX 2 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones into stores of the latter across Italy under the global strategic alliance inked between Xiaomi and CK Hutchison in May. IoT products are also expected to arrive in the future at Wind and 3 stores.

In addition, Xiaomi announced a collaboration with TIM, to offer users an attractive option to renew their smartphones.

Xiaomi is partnering with Datamatic S.p.A., GIVI Distribuzione S.p.A., and Italy Wing S.R.L. to distribute, market and support its highly innovative products in Italy. Other than its site http://www.mi.com/it, Xiaomi joins hands with e-commerce platform Amazon.

Offline, Xiaomi partners with local offline retailers to present a broad range of highly innovative products in Italy, including Mediaworld, Esselunga, Carrefour, Coop, Iper, Iperal, Auchan, Panorama and Trony. Xiaomi also revealed today information about opening its first Authorized Mi Store in Italy on 26 May, located at commercial center IL CENTRO in Milan.

The event also featured a speech from Qualcomm Technologies’ Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President and President, Qualcomm EMEA, who congratulated Xiaomi on its entry into Italy: “Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is very pleased to be working with Xiaomi on their entry into Italy with the Mi MIX 2S and Redmi Note 5. It has been a pleasure to witness their success in Spain since their arrival there late last year. Powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Mobile Platform with X20 LTE, the Mi MIX 2S supports advanced connectivity and immersive experiences, all with a sleek, bezel-less design.”
