New York, US, December 8 2018 — Global technology leader Xiaomi kicked off its inaugural Mi Fan event in the U.S. on Friday, entertaining hundreds of Mi Fans in New York City’s trendy SoHo district.
The two-day #MeetMiInTheBox gathering – which runs through Saturday, December 8 – showcases Xiaomi’s popular smartphones, including the coveted Mi MIX 3, the Android One smartphone Mi A2, Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 8 and the POCOPHONE F1, plus more than 50 ecosystem products – from wearables and toys to cameras and lifestyle devices. All exhibited products are connected to Xiaomi’s IoT platform, enabling Mi Fans to partake in a seamless smart home experience.
As part of their appreciation of U.S. Mi Fans, throughout the two-day event, Xiaomi is offering Mi Box S at the incredibly low price of $39.99 on Walmart.com. Mi Box S is the company’s latest set-top box, featuring Android TV 8.1 with built-in Google Assistant and Chromecast, where users can easily cast photos, videos or movies from other devices (smartphones, laptops or computers) wirelessly to a larger screen.
A festival for Mi Fans
Xiaomi’s Mi Fan event generated significant buzz with nearly 700 Mi Fans signing up to participate after the brand’s official announcement.
Chris Panton, a U.S. Mi Fan who traveled all the way from San Jose, Calif. for the event said: “It was exciting to have an opportunity to experience the breadth of Xiaomi’s devices – including those that have yet to become available in the U.S. I’m excited to see Xiaomi expanding its domestic footprint and look forward to what’s in store for 2019!”
Mi Fans enter into Xiaomi’s ecosystem product zone, where they can experience a wide range of products including the Mi Laser Projector 150”, Mi LED Desk Lamp, Mi Bedside Lamp and Mi Smart Plug (Wi-Fi). They are all controllable using the Mi Home app, making tasks like turning on the lights and adjusting brightness of the desk lamp a breeze. These devices, all available via Walmart.com demonstrate Xiaomi’s commitment to providing great technology at honest prices.
Mi Fans also had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of three devices that will soon become available in the U.S. market (pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed):
Mi Fan culture for now and the future
Mi Fan culture is one of Xiaomi’s core strengths and key priorities. Eight years ago, Xiaomi built a strong fan base by listening to passionate users when designing products, starting with its Android-based operating system for smartphones, MIUI.
Xiaomi Founder and CEO Lei Jun said: “When I was creating Xiaomi, my idea was that no matter how big this company becomes in the future, we must run it like a small restaurant, a company where users can take part.”
