Xiaomi Holds MIDC Indonesia Conference to Support Local Developers

Jakarta, 4 September 2019 – MIDC (Xiaomi Developer Conference) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event attracted a large number of local start-ups and individual developers who came to share their ideas on how to build the local Internet ecosystem and improve Internet services. With Indonesia being a key overseas market for Xiaomi, Xiaomi’s Android-based OS MIUI has more than 24 million monthly active users here. MIDC Indonesia focused on highlighting the advantages of working within the Xiaomi ecosystem and empowering local developers.

Massive Resources to Support Developers Promoting Apps

The biggest challenge a developer faces when launching a new app is gaining traction and getting ahead of the competitors. In addition to Google Play, Mi App Store gives the developers a new platform to promote their products. Ivonne Li, the head of Mi App Store, said that the global distribution of apps on this platform has already exceeded 220 billion. After one year in Indonesia, Mi App Store has 1.7 million daily active users, showing 170% growth compared to last year. App developers can enjoy traffic bonuses and multiple strategies of app promotion offered by the platform. For example, Ciayo, a comic reader app from Indonesia, also achieved 100 times growth. In the second half of this year, Mi App Store (now rebranded as GetApps) launched the “Seagull Project” which will focus on investing resources with a total value of Rp to support local developers and start-ups through giving awards, featuring apps on the start page, publishing reviews, giving editorial recommendations, and holding events all of which will help build a new Internet ecosystem beneficial to all its participants.
The leading eCommerce platform in Southeast Asia Lazada has benefited from Xiaomi’s GetApps, with Xiaomi as one of the top three smartphone brand partners contributing to Lazada app downloads.

Empowering Global Game Developers

As the productivity and specifications of mobile devices continue to increase, the high-performance Xiaomi phones are becoming new favorites for mobile gaming. Moreover, mobile gaming today is a market that shows incredible growth potential. According to Robin Zheng, the Head of Mi Global Game Publishing Team at Xiaomi, “There are 71.66 million daily active users of Xiaomi phones who are gamers, with an average of 6.65 million new users added daily. An average gaming session on a mobile phone for each user lasts 27 minutes.”

Supporting high-quality users is something that allows Xiaomi to achieve these impressive numbers. In order to allow more users to enjoy games, Xiaomi has established an innovative game distribution strategy which combines traditional promotion channels (Google Play and App Store) with Xiaomi’s platforms and integrated payment and monetization solutions. Mint Games, a one-stop distribution lab for casual and indie games has been launched by Xiaomi as well. Handing over games to this platform allows the developers to transition from business development to profitability in an easy and seamless way.

Ideal Cloud Platform Helping Start-ups

Building a good app today is inseparable from the support of cloud services. Kingsoft Cloud Services have always been an important part of the Xiaomi ecosystem. Kingsoft provides IaaS infrastructure that support the upper-level PaaS and SaaS apps. According to Tao Yu, General Manager of Solution Center Kingsoft Cloud, their services cover 100 countries and regions around the world, and over 150,000 enterprises and developers have used Kingsoft’s cloud service products or solutions. Throughout the years, Kingsoft Cloud has always understood the needs of small and medium-sized start-ups. Reliable and cost-efficient cloud solutions greatly reduce the expenses for young companies. Expanding its services overseas, Kingsoft Cloud is keen to work with local developers and will provide cloud service experience vouchers worth $299 for start-ups and developers stationed in Kingsoft Cloud.

Xiaomi has always valued direct communication with developers and looks forward to building a new global software ecosystem, which will further enhance the localization of Xiaomi’s mobile services. MIDC Indonesia Xiaomi Developer Conferences is the very beginning of our journey. With the continuous expansion of Xiaomi’s business, the company will reach out to more developers and start-ups around the world to work together on creating a sustainable professional community.
