Redmi 10X Series Debuts in Mainland China

First smartphone to adopt MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC and support dual 5G standby

Beijing, CHINA, May 26, 2020 – Today, global technology leader Xiaomi officially announced the Redmi 10X for Mainland China – the first phone in the new Redmi X series. Standing at the forefront of the industry, Redmi 10X is the first smartphone to ship with the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC while also supporting dual 5G standby, achieving top-of-the-line performance with an AnTuTu score of over 410,000. The series also offers a Samsung AMOLED display and 30x digital zoom camera.

Leading performance with MediaTek Dimensity 820

Powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 820 processor, Redmi 10X series is currently the highest performing mid-to-high-end smartphone on the market. Thanks to its flagship-level four-core architecture (4X ARM Cortex-A76 cores and 4X ARM Cortex A55 cores), MediaTek 820 provides a blazing clock speed of up to 2.6Hz, enabling Redmi 10X to achieve an AnTuTu score of over 410,000, ranking first in its price range.

To ensure stable and uninterrupted performance during prolonged gaming sessions, Redmi 10X series is kept cool with a liquid cooling system that surrounds a suspended heat pipe, and multi-layered graphite to disperse the heat.

Non-stop connectivity with world’s first dual 5G standby

Redmi 10X series adopts an integrated 5G solution which supports dual-mode SA+NSA to cover mainstream Mainland China 5G frequency bands. When connected to two 5G networks simultaneously, the device can intelligently switch between the two networks to ensure optimal 5G connectivity at all times.

To continually provide peak performance with the best power consumption rate, Redmi 10X also leverages the MediaTek 5G UltraSave energy management function and smart switching technology to intelligently select optimal and sustained signal quality at lowest power.

Redmi 10X series also has targeted optimization capabilities for different usage scenarios such as elevators, basements, and high-speed transport. It is able to monitor network signals throughout popular transit routes to constantly optimize network parameters and pathways, greatly reducing the rate at which calls drop or data connectivity is lost, ensuring a stable and fast 5G connection across all locations.

Celebrate creativity with unparalleled camera capability

Users can get creative with light photography thanks to Redmi 10X series’ outstanding camera capabilities that can capture intricate and experimental scenarios such as crowds, night scenery, running water, light painting, and starry skies. With this dynamic camera, users don’t need to fiddle with complex parameter setups in order to take playful images of light.

Redmi 10X series also boasts the industry’s first handheld low-light timelapse camera. Thanks to the low-light registration algorithm, interest point screening and 10ms nightscape alignment, users can take stunning night time photos and videos without the need of a tripod, providing a much simpler way of upgrading photography skills and video quality.

Redmi 10X series is fitted with a 48MP ultra-high resolution main camera. Redmi 10X Pro sports a 30x digital zoom with optical image stabilization (OIS), which significantly increases the stability while taking pictures.

Flagship-level features that revamps your mobile experience

Redmi 10X series sports a 6.57’’ Samsung AMOLED display that boasts 2400×1080 resolution for bright and clear image. The display supports HDR10+ and adjusts brightness and contrast in real time based on the content being played, ensuring optimal image details. With DC dimming, it minimizes stroboscopic effects in low lighting and ensures a comfortable viewing experience in the dark.

Redmi 10X series features an in-screen fingerprint sensor and customizable Always-on Display. The new Dark Mode 2.0 allows non-compatible third party apps to obtain dark mode coverage in all scenarios which ensures comfortable viewing at night, and saves 50% more power compared to LCD Dark Mode.

Redmi 10X series puts an end to the hassle of daily charging. Equipped with a 4,520mAh (typ) large capacity battery, it offers the hardware required for long lasting battery life. Redmi 10X Pro also supports 33W PD fast charge to quickly regain a sufficiently charged battery level.

The Lunar Gold variant adopts the AG craft commonly seen in flagship phones, which is designed with a matte finish that exudes quality and is resistant to finger smudges. Both sides of the device are built with the highly durable Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, giving it smash and drop-proof qualities. Redmi 10X series sports IP53-level for dust and splash protection, offering resistance to light rain and other unexpected mishaps of daily life.

Xiaomi’s Revenue Up 13.6% YoY in Q1 2020
Top and Bottom-line Grow Despite Headwinds, Both Beat Market Consensus
Major Products Sales Experience Solid Recoveries and Return to Pre-pandemic Level

Hong Kong, 20 May 2020 — Xiaomi Corporation (“Xiaomi” or the “Group”; stock code:1810), an internet company with smartphone and smart hardware connected by an Internet of Things (“IoT”) platform at its core, today announced its unaudited consolidated results for the three months ended March 31, 2020.

In the first quarter of 2020, Xiaomi achieved solid growth across all business segments. Its total revenue amounted to RMB49.7 billion, representing an increase of 13.6% year-on-year (“YoY”). Adjusted net profit was RMB2.3 billion, increasing by 10.6% YoY.

According to Canalys, a market research firm, Xiaomi successfully navigated the market downturn and were able to achieve the highest YoY growth in shipments among the top five smartphone companies worldwide. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s smartphone 5G penetration rate in China was 25.9%, surpassing the industry average, reflecting its leading position in the 5G smartphone market, and the effective execution of the “5G + AIoT” dual-engine strategy.

Q1 2020 Financial Highlights:
• Total revenue was approximately RMB49.7billion, up 13.6% YoY, beating market consensus
• Gross profit was approximately RMB7.56 billion, up 44.9% YoY
• Non-IFRS adjusted net profit was RMB2.3 billion, up 10.6% YoY, beating market consensus
• R&D expenses was RMB1.9billion, up 13.4% YoY

Xiaomi Founder, Chairman and CEO Mr. Lei Jun said, “Although the industry is facing severe challenges, the Group still experienced growth in all segments despite the market downturn, which fully reflects the flexibility, resilience and competitiveness of Xiaomi’s business model. In the first quarter of 2020, we successfully issued the first U.S. dollar bond, which was 7.5 times oversubscribed; we also featured on the ‘Forbes’ Global 2000 list’ again this year, which highlights the international capital market’s recognition of Xiaomi. We believe a crisis is the ultimate litmus test for a company’s value, business model and growth potential. As the impact of the pandemic starts to ease, we will continue to focus on the ‘5G + AIoT’ strategy and strengthen our scale of investment, in order to let everyone in the world enjoy a better life through innovative technology.”

In the first quarter of 2020, Xiaomi’s smartphone captured a market share of approximately 31.2% of shipments in India, and ranked 1st for the 11th consecutive quarter, according to IDC. Xiaomi leveraged its leading position in India, which also accelerated its growth in adjacent markets. According to IDC, Xiaomi ranked 1st in smartphone shipments in Nepal in the first quarter of 2020 with a market share of 30.9%, the equivalent of the market share of the 2nd and the 3rd ranked smartphone companies combined.

Besides, Xiaomi experienced remarkable growth in major overseas markets. Besides, due to the fast-growing online gaming market in mainland China and higher online gaming average revenue per user from its premium smartphone users, its online gaming revenue increased by 80.5% YoY to RMB1.5 billion in the first quarter of 2020. Its internet services revenue outside of advertising and gaming from mainland China smartphones, including those generated from the Youpin e-commerce platform, fintech business, TV internet services and overseas internet services, increased by 71.5% YoY in the first quarter of 2020.

Video streaming and other subscription services provided on Xiaomi’s TVs became a major entertainment choice for many consumers amid the pandemic. As of March 31, 2020, the number of paying subscribers increased by 53.7% YoY to 4.3 million.

Impact of Covid-19 outbreak

Xiaomi spared no efforts to combat the coronavirus. Xiaomi was among the first internet companies to fight the pandemic in Hubei province, donating and delivering critical medical supplies to more than 30 hospitals in the province. Besides combatting the pandemic in China, Xiaomi actively fought to help address the global emergency and made large donations of medical supplies, including masks, protective suits and ventilators, to more than 30 countries around the world.

In mainland China, as the impact of the pandemic began to ease, the sales of Xiaomi’s major products experienced solid recoveries. The Group proactively worked with its supply chain partners to help them ramp up production capacities. Its production in mainland China has mostly resumed, and smartphone demand has rebounded quickly. Since April, its mainland China smartphone shipments have gradually returned to the pre-pandemic level, and its smart TV shipments have also largely recovered.

In overseas markets, Xiaomi’s extensive global reach allowed the Group to quickly strategize and deploy resources across different markets in response to the pandemic. As lockdown measures in various markets are gradually lifted, sales are starting to recover. As of the third week of May, the weekly number of smartphone activations in the European market had returned to over 90% of the average weekly level in January 2020.

MIUI 12, a lifelike operating system that is yours alone

MIUI 12 introduces a host of enhanced privacy features along with a “lifelike” system design that exceeds your imagination.

Beijing, China, May 19, 2020 – Xiaomi today unveiled its latest release of Android-based OS: MIUI 12, delivering on the top-notch experience MIUI users have come to expect.  The much-awaited MIUI 12 launches with a slew of bottom-up optimizations and ushers in a five-star OS experience to impress new and existing users globally. As privacy protection is at the core of the development of MIUI, MIUI 12 introduces a host of enhanced privacy features that continuously reinforce this focus. With a brand-new UI design and innovative system animations, MIUI users are bound to enjoy a “lifelike” system experience as a highlight amongst several new features.

Reinforced privacy protection makes the user informed and empowered

MIUI 12 grants the user stronger control over permissions which takes privacy protection to the next level. When individual apps ask for permissions, a wider range of options (such as “While using the app” and “Notify”) is offered. Building on Android’s rigorous permission control over location, MIUI 12 takes things a step further to manage apps that request sensitive permissions. In addition to location, permissions to access camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage are only allowed under “While using the app” mode. MIUI 12 also protects the user’s privacy when sharing photos: location information and metadata can be removed before the items are sent.

Design and animations inspired by nature

MIUI 12 brings the OS experience to life with a bottom-up revamped UI design and nuanced system animations. System-wide, core scene animations are fully refreshed with system-level technical innovations. With Mi Render Engine, MIUI 12 creates an ultra-smooth UI experience. Powered by Mi Physics Engine, the elegant motion of icons simulates a 3D curve that resembles real-life motion trajectory. From the elegant opening and closing of apps to the smooth switching between apps, every detail mirrors a refreshing design methodology inspired by nature. With nuanced system animations, MIUI 12 introduces a lifelike OS experience where every detail becomes tangibly real.

Adopting realistic visualizations across the system allows us to make each screen more informative and comprehensible. Data is perceived more intuitively when it’s presented in graphics. Visualizations save time and make the interaction with the mobile device more intuitive and efficient. Visualized elements also acknowledge the user’s presence by reflecting motion in animations, which makes every glance at the screen unique and personal.

The newly introduced “Super Wallpaper” takes cosmic aesthetics to a new level with stunning reconstructions of iconic planetary landforms based on NASA’s official imagery. Super wallpapers combine Always-on display, Home screen, and Lock screen into an exciting space mission, revealing new parts of distant planets as the user makes their way through the system. With Super Wallpaper, MIUI 12 becomes a window into the transient splendor of the universe.

New features and improvements

  • Multitasking

MIUI 12 introduces state-of-the-art multitasking solutions in the form of global floating windows. When the user navigates the system using full screen gestures, floating windows can facilitate multitasking and save the trouble of constantly switching between apps. Floating windows can be easily moved, closed, and resized by simple gestures applied to the action bar. For example, when a text message comes while a video is playing, the user can reply in the floating window without pausing playback. Floating windows make multitasking on mobile devices seamless, convenient and disturbance-free.

  • Casting

MIUI 12 enhanced the previously introduced screen casting functionality, turning it into a must-have tool for any presenter. Now, the user can start casting documents, apps, videos, and games with a single tap. Multitasking is also supported here: the windows that are being cast can be minimized at any time. The option to cast items with the screen off decreases power consumption and hiding private items doesn’t allow floating notifications and incoming calls to appear on external monitors.

  • Ultra Battery Saver

MIUI 12 supports an Ultra battery saver mode. With this feature on, the most power-consuming features will be restricted to extend the phone’s standby time and reduce power consumption when the phone’s battery is running low. Calls, messages, and network connectivity won’t be affected and will remain fully usable.

  •  Dark Mode

MIUI 12 comes with a beautiful new look with enhanced Dark Mode. With a darker color palette for system backgrounds, system apps, and third-party apps alike, Dark Mode provides an outstanding viewing experience in low-light environments. When Dark Mode is on, the user can also choose to adjust contrast automatically to match the ambient light when screen brightness is reduced. Dark Mode also lowers power consumption and helps to ease eye strain.

  • App Drawer

Xiaomi’s Poco Launcher has proven to be well-received by global users. Its signature feature – the App drawer – now comes to MIUI 12. If the user turns it on, all apps will go there, which will make the Home screen cleaner and neater. The user can also group apps automatically according to the user’s preferences to find the needed app in just a few swipes.

POCO F2 Pro takes the mobile experience to the next level with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865: the most powerful 5G processor on the market. Paired with a Kryo™ 585 octa-core chip processor and Adreno™ 650 GPU, both offer 25% improved performance over their predecessor, delivering the ultimate performance with constantly connected users in mind. The powerful SoC is complimented with ultra high-speed LPDDR51 RAM and the latest UFS 3.1 storage, which enable POCO F2 Pro to offer top-notch read-and-write capabilities for insanely smooth operations.

With LiquidCool Technology 2.0, POCO F2 Pro sports the largest vapor chamber available on the market, along with multiple stacks of graphite and graphene. This solution keeps the device cool, especially the SoC and the surface of the phone, and sustains peak performance even under heavy activity loads. Optimized for power users and TÜV Rheinland High Gaming Performance certified, POCO F2 Pro delivers an improved gaming experience with enhanced HDR display and realistic haptic feedback with a z-axis linear motor. It also offers an immersive audio experience with Hi-Res Audio certification.

Sophistication meets vibrancy with a sleek design and 6.67” AMOLED ultimate Full Screen Display

Checking all the boxes for a true-blue flagship killer, POCO F2 Pro touts a variety of favorite features, including an optical in-screen fingerprint sensor and Corning®️ Gorilla®️ Glass 5 on the front and back for sturdy protection. The device is offered in radiant colors and styles to suit every personality, including grey, purple, blue, and white – sporting an anti-glare matte finish in the purple and grey variants.

With a contrast ratio of 5000000:1 and a brightness of 500 nits (typ) / 800 nits (HBM), the device brings display quality to the forefront. No matter the time of day, users can count on a comfortable viewing experience through POCO F2 Pro’s bright 6.67” AMOLED ultimate Full Screen Display, featuring a 360° triple ambient light sensor to deliver accurate ambient light detection and smooth brightness adjustment.

Taking display quality even further, the device boasts the latest TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display Certification, HDR10+, DC dimming, and Sunlight Mode 2.0. Through its advanced customizable color scheme settings, users can incorporate their own unique flair to the device’s display for a personalized experience.

Photography reigns supreme with 64MP quad rear camera and 20MP pop-up camera

Touting an impressive 64MP rear quad camera set up, POCO F2 Pro’s Sony IMX686 sensor captures clear, detailed images, while its 13MP 123° ultra wide-angle lens lets users take effortlessly gorgeous landscapes and large group photos. A 5MP macro and 2MP depth sensor round out the rear camera for detailed close-ups with unparalleled bokeh, allowing for beautiful images every time.

With ultra-high definition video recording at 8K (24fps) and 4K (60fps), POCO F2 Pro turns any user into a cinematographer. The Pro mode for both photo and video offers more control over focus and exposure, so users can capture higher quality images without the use of a DSLR or other professional cameras.

On the front, POCO F2 Pro sports a massive 20MP pop-up camera with a multicolor notification light, helping minimize front screen bezels without compromising camera quality. The selfie camera also sports 120fps slow motion video recording capability to turn even basic videos into cinematic masterpieces.

Accelerated performance shines with high-capacity 4,700mAh (typ) battery and swift 9.6Gbps connectivity speeds

Enabling a reliable extended user experience, POCO F2 Pro packs a mighty punch with its massive 4,700mAh battery, surpassing the average user’s power needs even during heavy usage. The device also sports a swift 30W fast charge, which can fuel the device to 64% in just 30 minutes and 100% in 63 minutes2. In addition to superb charging speed, POCO F2 Pro also comes with a 33W in-box charger which provides a convenient power-up experience for users constantly on the go.

—START—

We would like to express our appreciation for researchers’ engagement, passionate and constructive discussion.

Given our goal of providing world class secure services and products to all users, our next Mint Browser and Mi Browser software update will include an option in incognito mode for all users of both browsers to switch on/off the aggregated data collection, in an effort to further strengthen the control we grant users over sharing their own data with Xiaomi. The software updates will be submitted to Google Play for approval within today (May 3, GMT+8).

We believe this functionality, in combination with our approach of maintaining aggregated data in non-identifiable form, goes beyond any legal requirements and demonstrates our company’s commitment to user privacy.

As always, Xiaomi welcomes users to participate in our product development and advancement. Listening to feedback from users and letting them take part in Xiaomi’s future have been at the core of our company from the beginning.

Please find below a public statement in response to a recent article by Forbes on our privacy policy on April 30:

—START—

Xiaomi has reviewed a recent article by Forbes on our privacy policies and believes the reporting to be misrepresentative of the facts. At Xiaomi, our users’ privacy and security are of top priority. We strictly follow and are fully compliant with user privacy protection laws and regulations in the countries and regions we operate in. In light of the misrepresentations, we would like to clarify the following:

1. In all global markets where Xiaomi is officially present, in order to offer the best possible user experience, increase compatibility between the operating system and various apps, as well as undertake the obligation of protecting user privacy, all collected usage data is based on permission and consent given explicitly by our users. Additionally, we ensure the whole process is anonymous and encrypted. The collection of aggregated usage statistics data is used for internal analysis, and we do not link any personally identifiable information to any of this data. Furthermore, this is a common solution adopted by internet companies around the world to improve the overall user experience of various products, while safeguarding user privacy and data security.

2. Xiaomi hosts information on a public cloud infrastructure that is common and well known in the industry. All information from our overseas services and users is stored on servers in various overseas markets where local user privacy protection laws and regulations are strictly followed and with which we fully comply.

3. Prior to publication, the reporter emailed us with questions relevant to the article and Xiaomi responded with full transparency, providing detailed answers regarding our technology and privacy policies. We believe the article published does not accurately reflect the content and facts of these communications. After the article was posted, we contacted the reporter with further clarification and are currently in discussion with the intention of swiftly reassuring him with how our data security works in action. In parallel, we created a live post on Xiaomi’s official blog to share this same information with the public. The Forbes article, which details how we protect users’ privacy and comply with all laws and regulations, has recently been updated to include a link to our blog post. https://blog.mi.com/en/2020/05/02/live-post-evidence-and-statement-in-response-to-media-coverage-on-our-privacy-policy/

4. As an internet company, internet security, safety and user privacy are Xiaomi’s core principles and the foundation of our day-to-day work. Our products, technologies, performance and measures on user privacy protection are constantly being improved. In the latest launch of our operating system, MIUI 12, we have adopted the industry’s most stringent and transparent privacy protection measures, to date. For additional transparency, we always welcome fact-based supervisions, inquiries and discussions from the public to continuously improve our products and services for our beloved users and Mi Fans.

Xiaomi’s statement for now in response to a Forbes article published on April 30:

—START—

Xiaomi was disappointed to read the recent article from Forbes. We feel they have misunderstood what we communicated regarding our data privacy principles and policy. Our user’s privacy and internet security is of top priority at Xiaomi; we are confident that we strictly follow and are fully compliant with local laws and regulations. We have reached out to Forbes to offer clarity on this unfortunate misinterpretation.”

—END—

The following provides detail on how Xiaomi collects data and protects user privacy:

There are two types of data collection:

1. Collection of aggregated usage statistics data – Data (such as system information, preferences, user interface feature usage, responsiveness, performance, memory usage, and crash reports) is aggregated and cannot alone be used to identify any individual.

An example of usage scenario: The URL is collected to identify web pages which load slowly; this gives us insight into how to best improve overall browsing performance.

2. Syncing of user browsing data – An individual’s user browsing data (history) is synced when:

  • The user is signed in on Mi Account; and
  • The data sync function is set to “On” under Settings

An example of usage scenario: To provide users quick access to previously viewed websites when users switch between different devices after logging in to their Mi Accounts.

Under incognito mode, user browsing data is not synced, however, aggregate usage statistics data (mentioned in point 1 above) is still collected.

Below are screenshots to further demonstrate these points.

  1. This screenshot shows the code for how we create randomly generated unique tokens to append to aggregate usage statistics; and these tokens do not correspond to any individuals.

  2. This screenshot shows how the Mi Browser works under incognito mode, where no user browsing data will be synced.

  3. The following URL shows that the collected usage statistics data is stored on Xiaomi’s domain and we do not pass any data to Sensor Analytics. (MIUI is the operating system of Xiaomi’s devices).
  4. This image shows that usage statistic data is transferred with HTTPS protocol of TLS 1.2 encryption.

Below are four certifications Xiaomi received from widely acclaimed international third-party companies and organizations – TrustArc and British Standard Institution (BSI) – which have certified the security and privacy practices of Xiaomi’s smartphone and its default apps, including Mi Browser.
