Flagship performance: Snapdragon 888 and 870 with fastest Wi-Fi support available

Redmi K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ are equipped with the latest Qualcomm®️ Snapdragon™ 888 Mobile Platform, a flagship chipset that boasts advanced 5nm process technology. This chipset is the first to use the ARM Cortex-X1 ultra-large core, which gives it a jump in peak performance. The Redmi K40 series completes its powerful performance capabilities with LPDDR5 storage and UFS 3.1 flash memory.

Redmi K40 comes with the brand-new flagship-level processor, Snapdragon™M 870, the first K-series smartphone with a Snapdragon™ 8-series flagship platform. The 8-core chipset boasts 7nm processing technology, delivering a 3.2GHz maximum frequency for outstanding peak performance. Equipped with the powerful Adreno 650 GPU graphics processor, the device seamlessly runs all mainstream games currently on the market.

All Redmi K40 series smartphones support the newest generation 802.11ax Wi-Fi standards, Wi-Fi 6. Redmi K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ Wi-Fi capabilities have been boosted even further with Wi-Fi 6E support, increasing the bandwidth to 160MHz in 5G frequency channels. It also uses 4096-QAM encoding for higher information density, drastically increasing peak speeds to maximum of 3.5Gbps. Redmi K40 series smartphones can maintain a high-speed, low latency and stable Wi-Fi connection, even when in a complex network environment with multiple devices connected.

Stunning display, awesome audio & video experience: 120Hz refresh rate and original color display, Dolby Atmos immersive audio, and dual speakers

Redmi K40 series smartphones are designed with a 6.67” full-screen, tiny hole-punch display for an extra-wide and uninterrupted edge-to-edge viewing experience. The brand-new Samsung E4 AMOLED display can reach a peak brightness of 1300nits while consuming much less power. The display delivers a stunning array of vivid colors with DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+ support. With meticulous calibration, the devices achieve a color accuracy of JNCD≈0.36 and ΔE≈0.35 for stunning color representation. The resulting effect is an outstanding display that received an A+ rating in tests carried out by the prestigious display testing organization, DisplayMate.

The 120Hz refresh rate and maximum 360Hz touch sampling rate enables Redmi K40 series devices to deliver an ultra-smooth and satisfying viewing experience for high frame rate games and videos, and enables super fast control in games.

Redmi K40 series supports 360° light sensing technology thanks to light sensors on the front and back of the device body. These sensors serve to effectively improve the accuracy of automatic brightness adjustment, delivering 8192 levels of brightness for a smoother and much more precise brightness transition. Redmi K40 series devices are now also the first K-series smartphones to feature a dedicated in-built ambient light sensor to adjust the color temperature based on the lighting levels in the external environment. This allows the device to match the color temperature to the real-time ambient lighting levels, ensuring a more comfortable viewing experience.

Redmi K40 series comes with Dolby Atmos and dual speakers providing a truly immersive audio experience. With Dolby Atmos, users of the devices can expect incredible audio quality with unparalleled detail, depth, and realism. No matter if listening through headphones or built-in speakers, they will be able to experience the sound flowing around them in a lifelike soundscape as they enjoy their favorite movies, TV shows or even mobile games.

Professional-level photography: 108MP triple camera with Audio Zoom

Redmi K40 Pro+ is crafted with a 108MP HD triple camera suite, composed of a 108MP HD main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50mm equivalent telephoto macro camera. Redmi K40 Pro sports a 64MP main camera, while Redmi K40 comes with a 48MP main camera.

The 108MP main camera supports 9-in-1 2.1μm large pixels, significantly improving imaging in low-light conditions. Powered by dual-native ISO technology, the camera can capture an excellent level of detail in dark areas of an image, even when taken in bright lighting conditions, and at the same time avoids overexposure of brightly lit areas. The 119° ultra-wide-angle lens has been better adapted to take awesome images of landscapes, buildings, and groups of people. The telephoto macro lens’s 50mm equivalent focal length is twice that of the standard macro lenses currently on the market, which enables higher magnification from the same distance and a clearer focus on details.

Redmi K40 series also comes with Audio Zoom for video. Unlike the standard dual-microphone design of many smartphones, K40 series devices are built with three. When shooting a video, this third microphone allows the device to “zoom in” on the sound along with the image, capturing clear audio of far-away scenes and considerably improving sound reception during filming.

At just 7.8mm in width, Redmi K40 series devices feel super lightweight and comfortable in the hand, achieving a sleek and stylish design without compromising on battery life. Powered by a 4,500mAh large capacity battery, the smartphones easily get through a full day of use without needing to be recharged. The smartphones support 33W fast charging, which can power them from low battery to 100% in just 52 minutes1.

Redmi K40 series offers a complete flagship experience, sporting a X-linear motor that enables powerful vibrations and quick response, an IR blaster that turns the device into a remote control for traditional household appliances, and NFC support for contactless payment.

Mi For India: Mi India strengthens its Make in India journey across both Smartphones and Smart TVs

  • Two new smartphone manufacturing partners – DBG and BYD – to set up manufacturing plants in India, thus increasing Mi India’s smartphone manufacturing capacity by ~20%.
  • Onboards Radiant Technology as a new manufacturing partner for smart TVs.
  • More than 99% of the smartphones and 100% of the smart TVs are now Made-in-India.
  • Majority of the components for smartphones (up to 75% of the value of a smartphone) are locally manufactured or locally sourced.
  • Generated employment for over 60,000 Indians

India, February 25, 2021: Mi India, the country’s No.1 smartphone and smart TV player recently completed 5 years of its “Make in India” journey.

Having been a committed partner in India’s manufacturing and growth story, producing smartphones and smart TVs locally is a significant step for the brand and has helped incorporate “Mi” into the fabric of the country.

One of the early adopters of the Honourable Prime Minister’s Make-in-India initiative, Mi India was earlier manufacturing all of its smartphones in India via its manufacturing partners: Foxconn and Flex. Mi India today announced that it has been ramping up its Indian smartphone manufacturing during the pandemic over the last 9 months:

  • It has onboarded two new manufacturing partners – DBG and BYD – for manufacturing smartphones in India. DBG has set up a smartphone manufacturing plant in Haryana, while BYD is setting up a plant in Tamil Nadu.
  • The new partnerships are expected to further increase Mi India’s manufacturing capacity in India. Mi India’s partnership with DBG has increased the brand’s monthly manufacturing capacity by about 20%. BYD India is also expected to contribute significantly to the production capacity once its operations begin by H1 of 2021.
  • Today Mi India manufactures more than 99% of its smartphones locally in India.
  • Mi India has also been ramping up local manufacturing and sourcing of smartphone components. Today majority of the components such as PCBA (mother-board), sub board, camera module, battery, back panel, USB cable, chargers, boxes and many more components are locally sourced or locally manufactured in India. All these components contribute to more than 75% of the value of smartphones.
  • These components are being manufactured by partners such as Sunny India, NVT, Salcomp, LY Tech, Sunvoda and many more.

Mi India launched smart TVs (under the brand of Mi TV) three years ago and has been the No. 1 smart TV brand for 10 consecutive quarters in India. It started its Make-in-India journey for smart TVs 2 years ago when it inaugurated a new factory in Tirupati with its manufacturing partner – Dixon Technology. Company has already sold 3 Million units of Made-in-India smart TVs. During the pandemic, it further strengthened its smart TV local manufacturing:

  • It has on boarded a new manufacturing partner – Radiant Technology – for manufacturing smart TVs in India. Radiant Technology has set up a manufacturing plant in Telangana.
  • With the new manufacturing plant going live, 100% of the smart TVs sold by Mi India are now Made-in-India.

With the new manufacturing plants going live, the extended Mi India family has further grown to 60,000 people in India. In the year 2020, Mi India and its partners generated employment for 10,000 new individuals taking the entire workforce count to 60,000. This 60,000 strong workforce has been built over the last six years since its inception in 2014 – and comprises partners from manufacturing, after sales, offline sales, logistics and corporate employees (team members exclusively working for Mi India).

The initiative underlines Mi India’s long-term commitment towards India and the government’s Make in India vision.

Speaking on the initiatives, Manu Kumar Jain, MD, Mi India said,  “2020 was an exceptional year, the pandemic led to multiple challenges disrupting the entire global and India supply chain. Despite this, the Mi India team worked together to further expand our local supply chain and manufacturing capability. It is due to our continued expansion of our local production that today, we continue to maintain our leadership in the smartphone and smart TV market space and emerged as the most trusted smartphone brand.

Being committed to India’s growth, Mi India was one of the first adopters of the Honourable Prime Minister’s Make-in-India initiative, back in 2015. Today we are renewing our commitment by adding new manufacturing partners such as DBG and BYD for smartphones and Radiant technology for smart TVs. Now 99% of our smartphones and 100% of our smart TVs are manufactured in India and the majority of the components for smartphones will be locally manufactured or sourced from India. We hope to play a small role in building India as a global manufacturing hub. ”

He further addedIn 2020, when organizations were downsizing their workforce, we were focused on putting together the building blocks for our growth in the India market – our employees. We generated employment for over 10,000 individuals in 2020. At Mi India, we encourage young professionals to take leadership roles. An astonishing number – 64% of our business leaders are under the age of 40. We are proud of our young and dynamic Mi India family that is willing to take risks, challenge the status quo, and most importantly – try new things.”

Elaborating on the partnership, Mr. Muralikrishnan B., COO, Mi India mentioned, “At Mi India, we have always believed in expanding the scale and reach of our Manufacturing & Supply chain capabilities and hence we are producing and excited with the addition of 2 new Smartphone manufacturing partners – DBG & BYD. DBG based in Bawal (near Gurgaon) gives us a manufacturing footprint in North India, while BYD India is headquartered in Chennai in the South.” He further added, “In the year 2020, we ramped up our manufacturing for smart TVs. Today, 100% of our Smart TVs are manufactured in India. We managed to move the needle from 85% to 100%. This has been made possible due to new partners like Radiant Appliances. In addition to increasing in manufacturing capacity, Mi India has also scaled up its employment generation toy 20% to 60,000 which includes employees and third party manpower.”

Building on Xiaomi’s existing technology, Mi 11 touts remarkable new features for photography and videography. Improved night mode capabilities offer photo night mode on not one, not two, but three of its cameras: primary, ultra-wide, and front. Mi 11’s cutting-edge video night mode technology completely redefines industry standards with its RAW-level noise reduction for brighter night shooting. Six one-click AI cinema features make artsy shooting a breeze, from Parallel World – which duplicates and inverts your scene to give the appearance of a mirrored world – to Freeze Frame Video – which freezes and clones video frames to create the illusion that parts of your video are frozen in time. Real film buffs will appreciate the Magic Zoom mode, creating an illusion of the camera simultaneously zooming in and out of the scene, a trick originally popularized through thriller films.

Shaking up industry standards even further, Mi 11 now offers studio-level shooting control with its HDR10+ recording and new Pro Time-lapse mode, capable of adjusting shutter speed, ISO, aperture and EV to handle even the most challenging lighting situations. Studio-level control also extends to editing with advanced AI features, including AI Erase 2.0 which allows users to remove unwanted objects or lines from images with one simple click.

Smoothest MIUI yet – Introducing MIUI 12.5

MIUI 12.5 is an intermediate update based on MIUI 12 with a strong focus on system optimizations5. After a complete revamp of the system UI, its CPU usage was reduced by up to 22% while power consumption – by up to 15%, ensuring frictionless performance and graphics.

This is most visible in screen gestures that will now be smoother than ever. In previous systems, gestures and other tasks were rendered on a single thread resulting in a queue of tasks competing for CPU usage. Naturally, under this scenario an overload of tasks could cause lags. However, in MIUI 12.5, gestures received a dedicated thread, making sure that no other tasks will interfere with them, and guaranteeing instant response.

Another highlight of MIUI 12.5 is uninstallable system apps. The vast majority of apps in the new system can be uninstalled, while a small number of apps that are engraved in the system core can be hidden.

The first batch of devices will start receiving the MIUI 12.5 update in Q2, 2021, it will include: Mi 10T,Mi 10T Pro, Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 11. The second wave will include 11 more Xiaomi devices. The release schedule for other devices will be gradually published on MIUI.com.

Mi 11 comes in two storage variants: 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB with enhanced LPDDR5 3200MHz RAM + UFS 3.1 storage. Starting at €749 and €799 respectively, Mi 11 will be available for purchase via Xiaomi’s official sales channels as early as February.

Honouring Xiaomi’s commitment to offer only the best to its consumers, Mi 11 comes with a two year warranty free of charge, double of what is typically offered for flagships. On top of that, users will be eligible for a one-time free repair service at their local Xiaomi Service Center during the first twelve months after the purchase6. Xiaomi Debuts its first Quad-curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone

Beijing, CHINA, February 5th, 2021 – Global technology leader Xiaomi today officially introduced its first quad-curved waterfall screen concept smartphone. The 88° hyper quad-curved screen design allows visual interfaces to flow over the phone’s surface like water. Almost the entire frame of the smartphone is covered by screen, while its body carries no ports or buttons, bringing forward the futuristic unibody no-port design.

Xiaomi never stops innovating, striving to find the best balance between imagination and reality. Pushing the limits of the classic smartphone form factor, Xiaomi engineers tried to make the smartphone as simple as possible and bring the “just a screen” form factor a step closer to life.

88° hyper quad-curved screen, revolution in manufacturing and bonding

Since flexible displays are part of the new normal, the biggest challenge in producing the industry’s first quad-curved waterfall screen was not in bending the display, but rather in manufacturing a 88° quad-curved glass panel and the 3D bonding process.

The 88° ultra quad-curved glass has virtually broken through the technological limits of glass production. Compared with ordinary curved glass, the difficulty of hot bending increases exponentially. Polishing a piece of such hyper-curved glass with a deep 88° bend on four sides requires self-developed glass processing equipment, hot bending under 800°C high temperature and pressure, four different polishing tools and up to more than ten complex polishing procedures. More importantly, behind such a piece of glass are thousands of attempts.

To attach such a piece of 88° quad-curved glass to a flexible display, an innovative screen stacking design was adopted through our breakthrough 3D bonding process. All of this ensures perfect and flawless screen performance.

Unibody no-port design, a new direction for future smartphones

The shape of the display is a crucial factor in determining the smartphone form of the future. With Xiaomi’s new breakthroughs in quad-curved waterfall displays, new possibilities are forged and critical advances are made towards the goal of a truly port-free unibody smartphone.

This revolutionary design ensures that almost all sides of the phone are covered by the display. Thanks to 46 self-developed patented technologies, physical ports and buttons can have their functions replicated by more elegant alternatives. Groundbreaking technologies and engineering solutions – including ultra-thin piezoelectric ceramics, an industry-first flexible film display acoustic technology, third-generation under-display cameras, wireless charging, eSIM chips, pressure-sensitive touch sensors, and more – are seamlessly integrated together, forming a visionary yet intuitive device.
