[News] Xiaomi announces next-generation Android One smartphones Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite

Xiaomi’s smart home products now work with the Google Assistant

Xiaomi’s unique ecosystem approach has created a comprehensive suite of products that are centered on our smartphones and include mobile peripherals, smart hardware and lifestyle products ranging from rice cookers to fitness trackers. Currently, Xiaomi has invested in more than 90 IoT and lifestyle companies and, together, we have been able to make a positive impact on many industries.

However, we want to do more. As we seek to bring even more convenience to our users around the world, we understand that deepening our collaboration with partners is key. With this goal in mind, Xiaomi announced during Google I/O 2018 that our smart home products will now work with the Google Assistant, allowing users to control products through a smart speaker, like the Google Home, or with the Google Assistant app.

The initial selection of compatible products includes Mi Bedside Lamp, Mi LED Smart Bulb and Mi Smart Plug, which will be coming to the U.S. shortly. More information about each product can be found below:

Mi Bedside Lamp has 16 million color customizations and can be configured to fit any environment or mood. In addition to the touch-sensitive panel at the top and the Mi Home app, users can now use the Google Assistant to control Mi Bedside Lamp through voice control.

Mi LED Smart Bulb will add color to any room, supporting up to 16 million colors. With support for the Google Assistant, users no longer have to get out of bed to turn off the lights and can also control brightness and color temperature verbally.

Turn any product into a smart device with Mi Smart Plug. This smart Wi-Fi plug allows users to turn power on and off using an app or by simply asking the Google Assistant and enables consumers to issue a voice command to their favorite “non-smart” gadgets.

These smart home products will be available in the U.S. shortly, starting with Mi Bedside Lamp in May. Stay connected with Xiaomi on Facebook and Twitter to find out more details about price and availability.

As an Internet company, Xiaomi has always emphasized on making the best user experience on our apps. Xiaomi’s first product was MIUI, our proprietary operating system built on the Android kernel. From the start, MIUI has fully embraced the Android ecosystem, including all mobile apps.

Continuing to deliver on this vision, Xiaomi today announced its participation in the Android P Developer Preview program. This provides developers and early adopters a chance to experience the latest Android release on Mi MIX 2S, allowing them to try out the latest features, and test apps they have developed, ensuring that they work on the upcoming Android P.

Android P is the upcoming version of Google’s mobile operating system, and comes with many new features for developers and users. Last week around Mobile World Congress 2018, the world’s largest exhibition and conference for the mobile industry, we were part of two partnerships with Google in bringing its AR platform and Google Assistant to our smartphones. Here’s a recap of the announcements in case you missed it.

Partnership with Google ARCore

Augmented reality (AR) marks the next shift in what’s possible with mobile devices. With ARCore, Google’s AR platform for Android, developers can build AR apps and publish them to the Google Play store. ARCore apps can understand the user’s environment and place objects and information in it, enabling users to place virtual 3D objects on various surfaces, and change their view as they move the phone. In short, ARCore allows users to experience games or visualize rooms and spaces in new and innovative ways.

On February 23, we announced that Xiaomi has become one of Google’s ARCore partners. That means upcoming Xiaomi devices will support ARCore apps, bringing an amazing AR experience to more Android users both in China and globally.

Additionally, we announced that we will be partnering with Google to bring Google Assistant capabilities to Xiaomi smartphones. A deeper integration with Google Assistant will bring new ways to interact with Xiaomi devices, yielding a better customer experience for Xiaomi users around the world.

A deeper integration with Google Assistant will give users new ways to interact with their Xiaomi products, providing a better user experience when implemented in upcoming products.

Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen our ties with existing partners, as we identify ways to collaborate with new ones – all in an effort to bring more fairly priced, high-quality products and services to everyone.
